Shopify Advanced plan carrier rates checklist: when your own checkout prices need a higher plan, and when hiding or renaming a method does not.

Advanced plan or not: carrier-rate checklist

Custom shipping prices at checkout are not a toggle you flip on every Shopify plan. The knockout is the plan, and merchants mix up two jobs: quoting a new price through a carrier service, and hiding, renaming, or reordering methods that already exist. Only the first one demands Advanced. This filter is for OO - Shipping Rates & Rules. The wider “complex rules” use case is a separate article. Today is only eligibility.

Must-haves

| Must-have | Knockout | |-----------|----------| | You know whether you need a new price or only a label change | Hiding a method is not a rate | | Carrier rates run only on an eligible shop | A free app on Basic does not mint those prices | | Eligibility comes from the app docs, not a listing adjective | “Works with Checkout” is not a plan waiver | | The carrier is attached to every zone or market you expect it on | An unattached rate never reaches checkout | | Blocked shops see a plan banner | A silent empty checkout is worse | | Delivery customization still works when rates are blocked | Otherwise you throw away the half that runs | | Logs show why a rate did or did not appear | Guessing at checkout is not a test | | Review counts and badges stay factual | This app does not have a review history yet |

Two sources, do not merge them

Source A — the app. Shopify plan requirements, read 1 November 2026:

To return your own prices through the OO - Shipping Rates & Rules carrier, the shop typically needs:

  • Advanced Shopify or higher, or

  • a development store or Partner development store, or

  • Shopify Plus or a similar enterprise plan

If the carrier is already active on the shop, the app treats the store as eligible even when the plan name looks lower.

Hide, rename, and reorder work on more plans. You do not need Advanced only for delivery customization. Eligible shops see the full checklist: zones, carrier attachment, optional delivery rules, test checkout. Blocked shops see a plan banner and a delivery-focused checklist.

Source B — Shopify Help about carrier-calculated shipping from carriers such as UPS and FedEx. That page is not a description of this app. Third-party shipping carrier accounts, 1 November 2026:

| Plan | Carrier-calculated shipping (carrier account) | |------|-----------------------------------------------| | Grow | Add-on monthly fee via Support, or included with annual billing | | Advanced | Included | | Plus | Included | | Other plans, including Basic and Starter | Not available |

That table is about connecting a carrier account. It does not say a Grow annual plan automatically enables this app’s carrier. The app article does not list Grow as its own path. The documented exception for a lower-looking plan is: the carrier is already active. A Grow store that already has CCS (annual billing or the monthly fee) can fall under that exception. It is not “every Grow yearly plan qualifies” unless the carrier is actually on. Basic or Starter with no active carrier: do not plan on custom prices.

Delivery customization does not create prices. It changes methods already at checkout — from Shopify shipping, from this app’s carrier, or from another carrier. Actions include hide (all, by name, by type), show only matches or the cheapest or highest, move to top or bottom, sort by price, and rename. The module stays available when carrier-calculated rates are blocked by plan.

When profiles are enough

Stay on Shopify shipping profiles when you only need:

  • a flat rate, free shipping over a threshold, or a simple weight or price bracket

  • a separate profile for bulky goods or another origin

  • live rates from your own UPS or FedEx account, and your plan allows that under the Help table above

Those UPS and FedEx rates are native carrier-calculated shipping. This app is not required for them. The app is for logic a profile does not express: postal code, dimensions, dimensional weight, products, customer tags, date, several components collapsed into one checkout line, and a log of why the line showed. The listing describes 40+ conditions and a visual flow, or an AI draft you review before save. None of that removes the plan gate. Without an eligible carrier, the rules do not come back as a checkout price.

Attach the carrier to every shipping zone or market where checkout should ask the app. That step is Add the carrier to shipping zones or markets. A forgotten market looks like a dead app and is not a plan problem.

Matrix

| Need | Native profiles / CCS | OO Shipping Rates & Rules | |------|----------------------|---------------------------| | Free over a threshold, flat rate otherwise | Yes, on plans that offer shipping | Unnecessary | | Your UPS or FedEx account rates | Yes, if the plan includes CCS | Not the main job; the app builds its own rate logic | | Your own price by postcode, size, or tag | Profiles get coarse | Yes, if the carrier is eligible (app docs) | | Same need on Basic, carrier not active | No for this carrier | No. Plan banner, no custom prices | | Development or Partner development store | Often used to test | App docs: a valid path for carrier rates | | Rename a method or hide one | Limited in standard rates | Yes, delivery customization, without Advanced | | Several rates merged into one checkout line | No | Yes, combined rates, when the carrier may answer | | Why this rate appeared | Manual tests | Activity logs, last 7 days | | App price | — | Listing: Free | | Reviews as evidence | — | 0 reviews (below) |

An assistant whose knockout is “at least N reviews” drops this app. That is a fair result. On 1 November 2026 the listing shows 0 reviews, a launch date of 28 October 2026, price Free, and English as the listed language. The fetched listing does not show a Built for Shopify badge. Do not assign one.

What a lower plan can still do

Under the carrier line, the usable half is:

  • delivery rules: hide, show, arrange, rename

  • a banner in the app instead of a checkout that fails quietly

  • tests of those rules without pretending dimensional weight is already a price

When you do want your own prices, the next step is a plan where the carrier is allowed (Advanced, Plus, a development store, or a shop where the carrier is already active), then attach it to every zone, then a test checkout and the logs. The app stays Free on the listing. The Shopify subscription does not.

Free shipping over a threshold is a shipping profile, on almost any plan. Your own checkout prices through this app need Advanced or higher, a development store, Plus, or a carrier that is already active. Renaming and hiding do not need that plan. OO - Shipping Rates & Rules is Free on the listing and has no reviews yet. The plan gate is the knockout, not the app fee.
