Group prices, signup approval, and VAT reverse charge: the requirements for an EU B2B use case, and when OO B2B & Wholesale matches.

EU wholesale on Shopify: requirements before you add an app

Ask a sharper question than “best B2B app”. Ask what the buyer must be able to do on Monday morning: see their price, apply with a VAT number, wait for approval, and reorder without a spreadsheet. That is the EU wholesale use case. OO ‑ B2B & Wholesale covers part of it. Shopify’s own B2B covers another part. Mixing them up is how merchants buy a second pricing system they do not need.

Figures below were read from public pages on 31 October 2026.

What “good enough” looks like

A blended store (consumers and businesses on one theme) usually needs five outcomes:

  1. A trade price that is not the public price, sometimes different per customer, tag, or company.

  2. A quantity break the buyer can see before checkout.

  3. An application you approve, instead of an open account.

  4. EU VAT handling: validate a VAT number, store the result, show prices including or excluding VAT.

  5. Optional later: a grid for many SKUs, a quote, a PO number, a minimum order.

A shared discount code fails (1) and (3). A PDF price list fails (2). Hiding the whole store behind a password fails (4) and annoys consumers on a blended shop.

Knock-outs for this use case

| Requirement | Fails the use case when… | |-------------|--------------------------| | Price list per customer, tag, or company | Everyone sees one price | | Volume breaks | The buyer calculates offline | | Registration with approve / reject | Anyone with an email can order at trade price | | VIES-style tax exemption plus a log, and incl./excl. VAT display | Reverse charge is a manual tax edit per order | | Hide prices until login | Consumers see the trade price | | Plan limits written down | “Unlimited” on the hero and a one-rule free plan are different products |

Only add these if the brief names them: bulk order grid, quote request, repeat order, MOQ / max / weight limits, extra cart fields and handling fees.

Native Shopify B2B is the first check

Shopify B2B is on Basic, Grow, Advanced, and Plus. It is not on Starter or Retail. It is not a Plus-only product. Feature differences are in B2B features by plan.

On the plans marked yes, native includes companies and locations, catalogs, quantity rules, quantity price breaks, net terms, PO numbers, draft orders, easy reorder, a quick order list, and Flow on B2B objects.

Limits that change the app decision:

  • Basic, Grow, and Advanced: 3 active catalog assignments across active B2B markets. The same catalog on two markets counts twice.

  • Assigning a catalog straight to a company or location: Plus only.

  • Deposits, partial payments, payment requests per fulfillment: Plus only.

  • Contextual checkout and storefront through Markets: Advanced and Plus.

Stay native when companies and catalogs already match how you sell, you fit inside the assignment cap (or you are on Plus and use direct catalogs), volume is a quantity price break, and you do not need a public application form with a VIES log. Native B2B is then the smaller system.

The app is not a replacement claim for Plus catalogs. It is a different door: apply, get approved, then see a price rule.

Where this app matches the brief

The listing is Built for Shopify. It describes B2B price lists and volume pricing per customer, tag, or company; registration with validation; quote requests; bulk order forms; EU tax exemption; and a wholesale cart with extra fields, fees, and order limits.

The module map in What is included:

| You need | Plan the docs assign | |----------|----------------------| | One active custom price list and one active registration form | Free. Extra forms can be stored; the storefront uses the oldest active form in that module | | Tax exemption, incl./excl. VAT display, volume pricing, login-to-see-prices, no form cap | Starter | | Bulk forms, quotes, order limits, wholesale cart | Growth |

Registration forms keep applications pending until you approve them. Approval creates or links the Shopify customer. You create a company, assign an existing one, or skip the company. Optional Flow workflows email your team on signup and send access after approval. Pair that with Login to see prices (Starter) when the trade price must stay hidden.

Theme setup splits in two. Custom pricing, volume pricing, tax display, login-to-see-prices, and order limits share the app embed. Registration, bulk forms, quote request, and the wholesale cart are theme blocks on a template. A theme change does not wipe the app config; you do add the embed or block again.

Commercial plans on the listing

Do not quote an older $8.95 price. The public card on 31 October 2026:

| Plan | USD | What the card lists | |------|-----|---------------------| | Free | $0 | 1 custom pricing rule, 1 registration form with approve/reject, Flow templates. Development stores: no caps | | Starter | $22 / month or $220 / year (17% off) | Unlimited custom pricing, unlimited volume pricing, company blocks, unlimited registration forms, EU tax exemption (VIES + logs), tax display, login to see prices. 14-day trial | | Growth | $37 / month or $370 / year (17% off) | Starter, plus bulk forms, draft checkout, repeat order, quote request, AI formulas for quotes, order limits (MOQ / max / weight), wholesale cart fields and fees. 14-day trial |

If the listing and the docs ever disagree, use the listing for the price and the docs for which screen holds the module. VIES and hidden prices are not Free features. The bulk grid and RFQ are not Starter features.

Listed language: English. Works with Checkout, Shopify Flow, and Shopify Admin.

Review snapshot, including the awkward bar

On 31 October 2026 the listing showed 5.0 from 34 reviews: 33 fives and one four. No ones, twos, or threes in the counts. The four-star write-up was not among the three reviews the page surfaced, so this article does not invent that complaint. The visible ones:

  • 6 October 2026, Sensorkranenwinkel.nl (Netherlands, about two years): uses the reverse-charge option and says support is fast.

  • 11 June 2026, POPlab Sounds (Germany, five months): they renamed the note field so it lands in their bookkeeping.

  • 21 April 2026: mentions a useful FAQ, a chatbot that answered, translations, and pricing they consider fair.

Re-open the histogram before you cite the count. One four-star is a real bucket; the text of it has to come from the listing, not from a guess.

“Best B2B apps” posts are a longlist. They are not a source for the three-catalog cap or for which plan includes VIES.

A short decision

  1. Companies, catalogs, and quantity rules already fit, and you are inside the catalog-assignment cap (or on Plus with direct catalogs): stay native.

  2. You need a public application, a VIES log, prices that appear after login, or price rules per customer or tag beyond that cap: this app’s Starter tier is the documented match.

  3. You also need a bulk grid, quotes, or cart fields and fees: that is Growth.
