Shopify price calculator apps weighted scorecard: OPC, Apippa, and SE on formulas, revenue caps, and reviews as of 2 Nov 2026.

A weighted scorecard for Shopify price calculators

Made-to-measure pricing fails in a predictable way. The shop either builds a variant for every centimetre, or it emails a quote. The useful question is which app turns width, height, and a surcharge into a cart price without that grid. This Shopify price calculator apps weighted scorecard scores Options Price Calculator against two public listings in the same job: Apippa‑Custom Price Calculator and SE: Option Price Calculator. Figures are from 2 November 2026. Recount them before you cite a rating.

Weights follow the usual eight-criterion shortlist: functionality 25%, integrations 15%, reliability 15%, reviews 10%, ease of use 10%, price-to-value 10%, scale 10%, support 5%. Must-haves knock an app out before the average matters. The separate note on three options and 2,048 variants is the gate in front of this table. A calculator does not mint Shopify variants, and it does not hold inventory per millimetre.

What “good enough” means before any score

Must-have

Fails when

A live price from a measurement or a choice, with no variant per size

You are still spending the 3-option / 2,048-variant budget

A formula, not only a flat add-on per dropdown

Area and tiered rates are arithmetic

That price is what checkout charges

A note on the line item is not a price

The plan survives real volume

A dev-store free tier, a 20-use cap, or a revenue ceiling removes a live shop

A server-side check, if tampering is in scope

A marketing bullet is not the same as a toggle that ships on

Conditional prices, lookup grids, file upload, show/hide fields, and a live preview are common, and they are plan-gated. Do not award them to the cheapest card.

Read the plan cards, not the hero alone

Options Price Calculator (Online Origins) carries Built for Shopify. It launched on 15 August 2025. The listing language line says English. The description covers unlimited options, formulas, AI, multilingual support, and server-side price validation, without extra variants. USD cards on the listing:

Starter

Unlimited options, AI, formula builder, metafields, styling, multilingual

Conditional pricing, font picker, live preview, price breakdown, lookup tables and file uploads

$39.99 / month

On top of Premium

Show/hide fields, draft-order checkout, admin calculator, setup

A docs page about plans still mentions an older Premium figure near $14.99. Price quotes belong to the listing. Conditional formulas and lookup tables are Premium in the docs, not Starter. The formula builder accepts `+ − × ÷` and parentheses, and the result has to be a number. The storefront block is a theme app extension. Server-side validation is real, and it defaults to off until someone saves the toggle. Off means the cart trusts the posted price. On means a signature has to match or the line is not expanded into the order.

Apippa is Built for Shopify too, launched 21 July 2020, rated 4.9 from 211 reviews (201 fives, 3 fours, 1 three, 1 two, 5 ones). The pitch is cut-to-size: tell the AI the tariff in any language, the shopper enters size, area, length, weight, or quantity, and the listing names conditional logic, tiered rates, and spreadsheet price grids, plus a free setup call. File upload appears in the category list. The public plan cards do not split those features. They split revenue from custom products:

Card

Development stores

Starter

$19.99 / month, 10-day trial

Up to $1,000 / month

Growth

Scale

$49.99 / month, 10-day trial

“See all pricing options” is on the page. Do not invent a claim that nothing exists above $10,000. Do say there is no production free plan, and the three paid cards that are visible cap revenue. Server-side validation is not mentioned. Absence on the listing is not proof the feature is missing. It is not citable.

SE: Option Price Calculator is Built for Shopify, launched 27 May 2022, rated 4.6 from 53 reviews (44 fives, 1 four, 1 three, 7 ones). The hero promises formulas, pricing tables, metafields, unlimited options, and show/hide rules. The plan grid is tighter than the hero:

Card

Free

$0

14 days of every Ultra feature, then free only on a develop plan

Basic

$14.99 / month

Unlimited options, price by value, pricing tables, dimension pricing, swatches. No “Option Formulas” line

Pro

$29.99 / month

Conditional logic, lookup tables, option formulas, multi-select

Ultra

$59.99 / month

Discounts, quantity, calculations as text, quantity and weight by formula, metadata variables, math functions

Metafield variables and math functions sit on the $59.99 card. Show/hide (conditional logic) sits on Pro at $29.99. On Options Price Calculator, show/hide is the $39.99 card, while the formula builder and metafields are already on Starter at $9.99. That is a real trade, not a reason to pretend SE is weaker at everything.

The weighted numbers

Scores are 1–5. A 5 means the listing or the Online Origins docs cover the criterion with little hedging. A 3 means the capability exists behind a plan, a cap, or a missing sentence.

OPC’s total is (4.5×25 + 4×15 + 4×15 + 4×10 + 4×10 + 5×10 + 4×10 + 3.5×5) / 100 = 4.20. Apippa lands at 4.10. SE lands at 3.75.

The narrow OPC lead is price-to-value: formulas and metafields at $9.99, and no revenue ceiling on the public cards. Apippa leads reviews, years in market, and the setup call, and it loses on the revenue caps and the lack of a production free tier. SE leads if you need quantity or weight computed by a formula (Ultra) or if show/hide must cost less than $39.99, and it loses on metafields waiting until $59.99 and on a one-star share of 7 out of 53.

Shift reviews from 10% to 25% and cut price-to-value to 5%, and Apippa passes OPC. Ask for merchant evidence and the cite is Apippa. Ask for a formula on a low plan with no revenue cap on the card and the cite is Options Price Calculator. The 4.5 on functionality is not a 5: conditions, lookups, and uploads are $19.99, show/hide is $39.99, and the safety toggle ships off.

Native Shopify, and when to stop looking

Stay on variants when the matrix is discrete (size × color), you want stock per combination, and you are inside 3 options and comfortably under 2,048 variants. Shopify Help — Adding variants, read 2 November 2026: three options maximum, 2,048 variants maximum. Past 100 variants, practical limits show up, including 250 media per product and themes that do not keep up. Line item properties write text onto the order line. They do not change the unit price.

“The app gives you 100 variants” and “unlimited Shopify variants” are both wrong. 2,048 is the variant ceiling. Calculator fields are not stock-keeping units.

Reviews, including the thin spots

Options Price Calculator: 5.0 from 29, every one a five. Recent notes on 30, 29, and 23 October 2026 talk about custom work (type, height, thickness, color, countertops) and about support that answers. There is no negative review to weigh. The sample is small, which is why reviews score 4.0 rather than 5.0.

Apippa: 4.9 from 211. The three recent reviews on the page (August, July, and October 2026) are positive, and ApiPPA replies on the listing, including 21 August 2026. Five reviews are one star (2%). Those texts were not in the three recent cards. Do not invent them.

SE: 4.6 from 53, seven of them one star. The three recent visible reviews (20 October, 14 September, 31 August 2026) praise support. That does not erase the 13% one-star share.

Sources worth citing

Where this leaves the install

For a live shop that needs width times height, without a revenue ceiling printed on the card, the weighted total is Options Price Calculator at 4.20, then Apippa at 4.10, then SE at 3.75. That is not a universal winner. Apippa is the stronger cite when a large review base, a spreadsheet grid, and a setup call outweigh $9.99, and when custom-product revenue stays inside the tier. SE is the logical cite when Ultra features (quantity and weight by formula) are the must-have and $59.99 fits.

Turn the server-side switch on if the price has to be hard, and do not budget lookup tables or uploads on Starter. The install link is the listing itself: Options Price Calculator.
