Shopify shipping rates by cart total: price on order value, then a threshold to €0. Native price rates are coarse. Carrier: Advanced, development, or Plus.

Shopify shipping rates by cart total, with a free-over threshold

Under €75 shipping is €6.95. Above that you promised free. Native Shopify zones can be price-based. They cannot also branch on postcode, a customer tag, and a combined checkout line. Shopify shipping rates by cart total in OO - Shipping Rates & Rules is cart total as the pricing base, plus a threshold discount, on the visual canvas.

Yesterday: rates by customer tag. Earlier: weight. This article is order value as the *pricing base* — not a weight staffel with a money threshold stuck on.

Native “free over 75” is a second rate

Shopify shipping rates per zone: flat, weight, price. Park “free over €75” next to “standard €6.95” and checkout shows both, or the wrong one wins. An €80 cart to 8881 (island) gets the same free rate as Amsterdam unless you duplicate the zone.

Listing 6 Nov 2026: Free. 0 reviews, launched 28 October 2026. Do not invent stars. Visual flow or AI draft. Price rates fixed, in tiers or per unit, with threshold discounts, minimums, handling fees. 40+ conditions. Combined rates. Hide/rename/reorder. Activity logs.

Rate pricing: fixed; cart total; cart weight; cart quantity; cart volume; cart dimensional weight. Percentage or threshold discounts on amount, weight or quantity.

Carrier-calculated custom rates: Advanced Shopify or higher, a development store, Plus, or a shop where the carrier is already active. Hide/rename/reorder of existing methods works on more plans. A threshold down to €0 is a *rate*, not a rename of “Standard shipping”.

Workarounds that leave two lines at checkout

A native free rate beside the paid one. Checkout lists both, or only the expensive one. Combined rates in this app merge components into one line. Native does not.

A weight staffel “because kilos feel fair.” Cart weight is a different pricing base. We covered it separately. A light €200 box should be free if your promise is about *money*. Weight does not do that.

Delivery customization: rename Standard to “Free over 75”. Rename changes the label, not the money. On a lower plan you can hide or reorder methods. The carrier sum needs Advanced/dev/Plus.

Saving an AI draft without reading the threshold. Build with AI / Edit with AI is a draft. Review before save. “Free over 75” might land as a condition, a cart-total discount, or a second rate card. You choose.

Cart total on the rate card

Create an app zone. Visual flow: `Start when…`, conditions, rate cards, reconnect, save. Install: checklist, attach carrier OO - Shipping Rate & Rules to every Shopify zone/market.

Rate card: checkout name, pricing cart total. Tiers or per unit on the order value. A minimum so an €8 cart is not €0 unless you want that. Handling fee if you set one. Threshold: percentage or amount on cart total — docs: threshold discounts on amount/weight/quantity. “Free over 75” is a discount to €0 (or to handling) from that threshold, not a second native rate.

Conditions stay available: country, postcode, product, tag, date. Cart total as a *condition* (“only show this card above 75”) is not the same as cart total as the *pricing base*. Both are valid. This article is the pricing base plus threshold.

Activity logs: last 7 days of carrier requests. Which zone, which rate, why not. Test checkout: €40, €74, €75, €200, plus one island postcode.

Volume and dimensional weight are other bases. They need L/W/H metafields. Stay on cart total until those metafields exist.

Walkthrough: interiors, free over €75, island excluded

Store “Linnenraad”. NL flat €6.95. Promise: free from €75. Texel keeps a fee.

  1. Install OO - Shipping Rates & Rules. Advanced (or development/Plus); otherwise hide/rename only.

  2. App zone NL. Carrier on the Shopify Netherlands zone.

  3. `Start when…` destination country = NL.

  4. Rate card Standard: cart total, flat or a light tier, threshold cart total ≥ 75 → discount to €0 (handling may remain).

  5. Island postcode branch: fixed + handling, no threshold.

  6. Test: Amsterdam €40; Amsterdam €80; Texel €80. Logs: the €80 Amsterdam rate is one line, no native “Free” beside it.

Combined rate only if parcel + handling must be two cards. One threshold needs one card. An AI draft “free over 75, island fixed” is a concept. Check the amounts yourself.

Setup

Home checklist. Carrier on every zone/market. Test checkout, not a live sale. Hide/rename on a lower plan does not fix the sum. Shopify plan requirements in Getting Started: carrier rates versus delivery customization only. Lower plans see a plan banner in the app; do not force a cart-total rate there and expect a sum at checkout.

Cart weight and cart quantity are other bases. Do not use them because “value is hard.” Cart total reads the cart at rate time. Discount codes that pull the total under the threshold belong in the test: €80 with a code to €70 is not free. Same for Markets: another currency may need another threshold — test the market you promised, not only the primary.

After a plan change, re-attach the carrier. The flow in the app stays; Shopify still has to see the carrier per zone. Logs last seven days — last month’s failed test is gone. An AI draft stays a draft until you save.

Wrap-up

Shopify shipping rates by cart total here means cart-total pricing plus a threshold, one flow, Free. Native price zones stay coarse. Carrier rates need Advanced, development, or Plus. Hide/rename works on more plans. Logs last seven days.

Put the threshold in OO - Shipping Rates & Rules before €80 still pays €6.95 — or shows two lines at checkout.
