Fix a Shopify theme block that shows the wrong table

The product page has tabs labelled Care and Shipping. The body is last season’s USP comparison. Structure in the app is fine. Enable is on. Shoppers still see the old copy. That is not a cache ghost. Shopify theme block shows the wrong table is almost always Tabbed or Us vs Them: the block renders whichever saved ID you picked in the theme editor.

Two placement models

Place tables with theme blocks lists five blocks:

• Size chart — visibility-based

• Product specs — visibility-based

• Compare button — optional manual placement

• Tabbed tables — pick a specific table

• Us vs Them — pick a specific table

Enable, visibility, and products: Size chart, Specs, and Comparison use All products vs Selected products. Tabbed and Us vs Them are chosen in the block picker. Enable still has to be on.

Auto-placement for Tabbed & Us vs Them: always the specific table in the matching theme block (or a shortcode). No inject under the price. No auto above Add to cart. Specs also have no ATC auto-inject — do not mix the rules.

How the wrong table goes live:

You duplicated a Tabbed table and never touched the block. The block still holds the old ID. New “Care 2026” is Enabled. The PDP shows “Care draft”. Common issues: open block settings, pick the right saved table.

You set Selected products on a Tabbed table. That control drives size charts / specs / compare. Tabbed ignores it. The ID in the block wins.

A shortcode still says `YOUR_TABLE_ID`. Nothing renders, or the wrong table if you pasted another id. Shortcode docs: real saved ID, embed on, table enabled.

Two Us vs Them blocks on one template. Shoppers see whichever sits first in the section — often the leftover. One block, one ID, Save in the theme editor.

The fix

1. Online Store → Themes → Customize. Live theme, not a draft.

2. Open the product (or page) template that holds the block.

3. Click the Tabbed or Us vs Them block — not the Size chart next to it.

4. In block settings, pick the correct saved table of that type.

5. Save. Hard refresh or a private window.

Enable off: nothing renders, even with the right ID. Enable on + wrong ID: a table appears, the wrong one. That is why it feels like “stale content from the app”.

The internal description in Settings is admin-only. Use names you will recognise in the dropdown: `PDP care 2026`, not `Table 3`.

Toggling the app embed will not swap a Tabbed ID. Embed still matters for shortcodes and the compare tray.

Floor: two Us vs Them, one product template

Shop “Pour-over Co”. Table A: “Us vs paper filters”. Table B: “Us vs cheap kettles”. Both Enabled. The theme block still pointed at A when marketing wanted B.

Ticket: “wrong competitor column”. One sentence in Common issues. Customize → Us vs Them block → select B → Save. No AI refine. No new screenshot.

Size chart on the same PDP stays visibility-based. It does not have this ID picker. Only Tabbed / Us vs Them do.

Other bullets on the same Common issues page — do not mix them:

• Comparison button missing — embed, Enable, visibility, auto-inject or the Compare block. No ID picker.

• Size chart not above Add to cart — embed, remove duplicate Size chart blocks or place one on purpose, visibility. Still not a Tabbed ID.

• Specs values empty — modules must point at real product fields; empty-value hide vs “Not available”.

• Shortcode renders nothing — embed, real table ID, Enable.

Only *Tabbed / Us vs Them shows the wrong table* is the dropdown in the theme block. “AI design looks wrong after pasting a URL” is a different line: save and retry, or use a clean screenshot. Do not create a third Us vs Them table because the colours drifted.

On a regular page template (not a PDP), Tabbed still uses the ID. Selected-products visibility does not replace that picker. Choose the ID, Enable on, Save the theme.

Checklist

1. Which type is on the page? Tabbed or Us vs Them → ID in the block. Size chart / Specs → visibility, no ID picker.

2. Customize, open the block, pick the saved table.

3. Enable on for that table.

4. Save the theme. Private window.

5. Shortcode only when a block cannot sit there; same ID rule.

Wrap-up

Shopify theme block shows the wrong table is usually Tabbed or Us vs Them still bound to an old ID. Size-chart visibility will not fix it. Pick the saved table in the block settings, Save, confirm Enable.

Set the ID through OO - Advanced Table Builder. One dropdown in Customize — do not build a third table “because the old one is stuck”.
