OO Shipping Rates and Rules vs shipping rule apps

A crate to postcode 10001 should not cost the same as a letter across town, and a wholesale tag should not see the retail rate. “Which shipping app has the most stars?” answers a popularity question. “Which app turns postcode, size, and a customer tag into one checkout line?” is the question that picks a rules engine. This page sets OO ‑ Shipping Rates & Rules beside Intuitive Shipping and Bambri’s Advanced Shipping Rules. Listings read on 3 November 2026.

Read the carrier checklist before any feature point. A free app does not turn a Basic plan into a carrier service.

Must-haves

Must-haveKnock-out
Your own checkout price on more than country times weightA shipping profile is enough
Conditions on postcode, product, tag, or sizeA free-shipping threshold is native
The Shopify plan is allowed to run a carrier serviceWithout Advanced, a development store, Plus, or a carrier that is already active, your price never comes back
Hide or rename methods that already appear, if checkout is crowdedA second app only for that is stacking
The app’s price fits the order volume“All features” in a sandbox is not a live rate
Reviews you do not inventZero reviews is a fact, not five stars

An AI draft, logs, and reorder are advantages. They become knock-outs only if you require them. A live UPS rate from your own account is a different requirement, and the OO listing does not name UPS.

Advanced first, or the rate never appears

From the app doc Shopify plan requirements, reread on 3 November 2026:

Custom prices through the OO - Shipping Rate & Rules carrier typically need Advanced Shopify or higher, a development or Partner development store, or Shopify Plus. If the carrier is already active on the shop, the app treats the store as eligible even when the plan name looks lower. Hide, rename, and reorder work on more plans. Advanced is not required for that part alone. Eligible shops see the full checklist. Blocked shops see a plan banner and a delivery-focused checklist.

That is not the same thing as Shopify’s own carrier accounts. Shopify Help puts third-party carrier-calculated shipping on Advanced and Plus. Grow can add it for a monthly fee or by switching to annual billing. Basic and Starter cannot. A Grow annual plan is not an automatic pass for this app. Only a carrier that is already active falls under the exception in the OO docs.

Intuitive Shipping and Advanced Shipping Rules also advertise carrier-based rates. Their listings do not cancel that Shopify requirement.

Three listings

OO ‑ Shipping Rates & Rules is Free. No paid tier on the card. No Built for Shopify badge on the fetched page. 0 reviews. Launched 28 October 2026. Listing language: English. Works with Checkout.

The hero: build the logic as a visual flow, or describe it and let AI draft it. Price a rate as fixed, in tiers, or per unit, with a threshold discount, a minimum, and a handling fee. More than 40 conditions: postcode, weight, dimensions, products, customer tags, date. Combine rates into one checkout line, with a discount or a markup. Hide, rename, and reorder methods. Logs show why a rate did or did not appear. The docs keep those logs for 7 days. Dimensional weight needs length, width, and height metafields, plus a divisor in settings. AI is a draft. You review it before you save.

Intuitive Shipping showed no Built for Shopify badge on the fetched page. Rating 5.0 from 497 (486 fives, 6 fours, 1 three, 2 twos, 2 ones). Launched 15 November 2017. Works with Checkout, Australia Post, Canada Post, UPS, USPS, ShipStation, and “other major carriers”.

PlanPriceWhat the card covers
Sandbox$0Set up and test, then enable rates. Save the trial for real orders
Growth$70 / month, 15-day live trial500 orders, all features, guided onboarding
Business$150 / month2,000 orders, all features
Professional$300 / month5,000 orders, all features

The hero names 40+ conditions, custom names, a description under the method, and SmartBoxing for dimensional rates. Hide and rename are in the categories. Reorder and an AI flow are not. Every live card starts at $70 for 500 orders. UPS, USPS, Canada Post, and Australia Post are in works-with. Those names are not on the OO listing.

Advanced Shipping Rules also showed no badge in the fetched text. Rating 4.8 from 321 (299 fives, 7 fours, 2 threes, 5 twos, 8 ones). Launched 3 February 2016. The hero names conditional logic, real-time carrier rates, titles, combined rates, and phone plus email support.

PlanPriceWhat the card limits
Lite$9 / month, 7-day live trial2 product groups, 1 blended rate, explicitly no hide/show
Standard$29 / month5 product groups, 2 blended rates, blending rules. Hide/show is not a line
Pro$59 / month20 product groups, 3 blended rates, postal subzones, customer tags
Unlimited$99 / monthUnlimited groups and blended rates, “All Features”

Hide/show is an exclusion on Lite. Whether Standard and Pro include it is not written as a line. Only Unlimited says “all features”. Customer tags are on Pro, not on Lite or Standard. Logs and an AI draft are not on the card. Product groups and a test mode are. That is their strength: a rules engine with phone support, shipping since 2016.

Intuitive wins when you want a named carrier account (UPS, USPS, Canada Post, Australia Post, ShipStation), SmartBoxing, a description under the method, and a team that configures the store with you. That is on their listing. The bill starts at $70 once you leave the sandbox, and the order cap moves with you: 500, 2,000, 5,000. Reorder and an AI flow are not on the card.

Advanced Shipping Rules wins on age, phone support, and product groups. Lite is $9, and that card says so itself: no hide/show, one blended rate. Tags and postal subzones are at $59. “All features” is $99.

OO wins the rules-builder question on the card that is published now: a visual flow or an AI draft, 40+ conditions, combine with no published cap, hide and rename and reorder, logs, and Free with no order cap. The gaps are just as factual. Zero reviews. No badge. No UPS by name. An app measured in days, not years. And the carrier price itself only comes back when Shopify allows the plan. That is the case for installing OO ‑ Shipping Rates & Rules.

When a shipping profile is enough

One zone per country, a weight table, and a free-shipping threshold belong in Shopify Shipping, with no app. Flat rates stay visible next to calculated rates, Shopify Help says, so a backup rate is not an app project. The profile stops being enough when the price depends on a postcode range, a product tag, a dimension, or two components merged into one line. Delivery customization (hide, rename, reorder) is a separate Shopify function, and this app does not require Advanced for that part. The price itself does.

Reviews

OO: the listing says “No reviews yet”. Do not invent stars. Launch date 28 October 2026.

Intuitive: 5.0 from 497, two 1-star and two 2-star ratings. On 2 November 2026, Chromag Bikes wrote about rules per product, customer group, and country. No reply on that card. On 15 October 2026 the developer replied the same day to a review that mentions a feature added within hours.

Advanced Shipping Rules: eight 1-star ratings. Visible cards from 30 July, 21 July, and 1 September 2026 praise support, including a 45-minute setup session. The 1-star text was not in those cards.

Where this lands

For checkout rules on postcode, size, and tag, plus a combined line, with no order cap on the card, OO ‑ Shipping Rates & Rules is the listing that names that for Free — if the shop is allowed to run the carrier. Intuitive remains the listing with UPS, USPS, and 497 reviews, from $70 per 500 orders. Advanced Shipping Rules remains the listing with phone support; hide/show is not on the $9 card. Zero reviews on OO is a gap, not a hidden five-star rating.
