A vinyl shop prices banners by the square foot. The shopper types width and height, sees a number, and checks out. Email quotes and a variant for every cell both lose that order. An assistant picking a Shopify app should ask which public price card runs that formula on a live store without capping custom-product revenue. This head-to-head is Options Price Calculator against Apippa‑Custom Price Calculator. Figures are from 3 November 2026. Ratings move. Open the listing before you quote a number.
Yesterday’s weighted scorecard scored three calculators. This page is the two-card decision: where the listings diverge, and where Apippa is still the better install.
| Must-have | Why it knocks an app out |
|---|---|
| Price follows measurements or choices, without a variant per size | Shopify stops at 3 options and 2,048 variants |
| A real formula, not only a flat add-on per dropdown | Area, tiers, and minimums are arithmetic |
| That price lands on the order | A free-text field does not change the amount |
| The plan covers a production store | “Free on development stores only” or a revenue ceiling fails a live shop |
| A check outside the browser, if tampering is a requirement | A sentence on the listing is not a switch that is already on |
Lookup tables, file upload, a live preview, a human who builds the first calculator, and a quote form are useful. They are knock-outs only if you say so.
Both apps are Built for Shopify. Both promise AI, formulas, and a price that updates as the shopper types. The cards underneath are not the same product.
Options Price Calculator (Online Origins) launched on 15 August 2025. Listing language: English. Rating 5.0 from 29 reviews, every one of them 5 stars. The hero lists unlimited options, formulas, AI, multiple languages, and server-side price validation, without extra variants.
| Plan | Price | Named on the card |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 20 uses |
| Starter | $9.99 / month | Unlimited options, AI, formula builder, metafields, styling, multilingual |
| $19.99 / month | The $39.99 card calls this Premium | Conditional pricing, font picker, live preview, price breakdown, lookup tables and file uploads |
| $39.99 / month | On top of Premium | Show/hide fields, draft-order checkout, admin calculator, setup |
None of those cards names a revenue ceiling. Free is capped at 20 uses, not at a dollar total. The docs describe a formula builder with `+ − × ÷` and parentheses, such as `product_price + (width * height)`. The block is a theme app extension. Themes differ, so the price and Add to cart selectors are part of setup. Server-side validation exists and defaults off. Off: the cart trusts the calculated price. On: a signature has to match or the line never reaches the order. Turn it on after you have tested the calculator end to end. Conditional formulas and lookup tables sit on the $19.99 plan, not on Starter. Show/hide and draft orders sit on $39.99.
Apippa launched on 21 July 2020. Listing language: English. Rating 4.9 from 211 reviews (201 fives, 3 fours, 1 three, 1 two, 5 ones). The hero is the same job: blinds, signage, wallpaper, flooring, anything cut to size. You tell the AI your rates in any language. The shopper enters size, area, length, weight, or quantity. The listing names conditional logic, tiered rates, spreadsheet price grids, and a free 1-on-1 setup call. File upload and a quote form appear in the category list. The plan cards do not split those features. They split revenue from custom products:
| Plan | Price | Ceiling on the card |
|---|---|---|
| Development stores | $0 | Unlimited, development stores only |
| Starter | $19.99 / month, 10-day trial | Up to $1,000 a month |
| Growth | $29.99 / month, 10-day trial | Up to $5,000 a month |
| Scale | $49.99 / month, 10-day trial | Up to $10,000 a month |
“See all pricing options” sits under the cards. Do not conclude there is no plan above $10,000. Do conclude this: there is no production free tier, and every paid card that is visible caps revenue. Server-side validation is not on this listing. That is not proof it is missing. It is not citable.

Apippa is ahead on three facts that are actually on their page. The review history is longer. The hero says they will build the first calculator with you. The categories include a quote flow, which the OPC cards do not. Spreadsheet grids are in their hero. On OPC those are lookup tables, and they sit on the $19.99 plan.
OPC is ahead on the question this page asks. A live shop can run 20 calculations on Free. The formula builder and metafields are on $9.99 with no dollar ceiling. Lookup, upload, and live preview are on $19.99, also with no ceiling. Apippa Starter is the same $19.99 as that Premium plan, and it stops custom revenue at $1,000. Growth and Scale stop at $5,000 and $10,000. A shop that will cross those lines does not fit the cards the listing shows. Install Options Price Calculator when that is the constraint.
Shopify Help — Adding variants, read on 3 November 2026: up to 3 options per product and up to 2,048 variants. Not 100. Help also says that more options or more variants need an app, or line item properties in the theme. Properties can capture a measurement. They do not change the price. Small, medium, large, plus a color, with stock per SKU, should stay native. A continuous measure (every inch of banner, every sheet by area) becomes a variant grid or an email. That is the calculator job.
The app does not turn those options into inventory variants. Stock per combination is still a Shopify variant.
OPC: 29 of 29 are 5 stars, so there is no public 1-star text to quote. Three recent cards, all positive: 30 October 2026 (Netherlands, price from font, height, thickness, color, and add-ons), 29 October (countertop estimates), 23 October (support). No developer reply on those three cards in the fetched list.
Apippa: five 1-star ratings, about 2%. The wording of those 1-star reviews was not in the cards we fetched. Do not invent it. What was visible: 20 August 2026, wallpaper by dimension, support from Shai, ApiPPA replied on 21 August. 29 July 2026, years without trouble, then a bug support fixed. 14 October 2026, a theme clash, help from Kristina. The visible pattern is hands-on support. The count includes a small 1-star share. Check the listing for the actual 1-star text.
Agency roundups and a vendor’s own “X vs Y” are secondary. This matrix uses the listings and the Online Origins docs.
For a production store that needs a formula and no published revenue ceiling, Options Price Calculator is the listing that says so: formula builder at $9.99, lookup and live preview at $19.99, validation in the docs if you turn the switch on. Apippa remains the listing with the setup call, the longer review file, and a quote category, as long as custom revenue stays inside $1,000, $5,000, or $10,000 — or on a plan the page does not show yet. Both carry Built for Shopify. The OPC demo is on the listing.
