Shopify bulk edit customer name email phone: first name, last name, email, and phone in the spreadsheet. Cell by cell or one value on a selection.

Bulk-edit Shopify first name, email, and phone without opening every profile

Ninety trade-show cards landed as `info@company.com`, blank first name, mobile number stuck in the note. Marketing wants a real first name. Finance wants one email per debtor. Support still dials the old number. Opening each profile is not an afternoon. It is a week, and halfway through you save a typo.

Shopify bulk edit customer name email phone is that grid in OO - Bulk Customer Data Editor. Edit customers in the spreadsheet lists first name, last name, email, phone as editable, next to tags, note, locale, and tax exempt. Marketing consent follows Shopify’s opt-in rules. Nothing writes until Save.

We already covered saves in batches and notes. This article is the contact columns. Locale and tax exempt stay the listing USPs — they sit on the same row, they are not the topic.

Native Customers is one card per click

Shopify lets you change name, email, and phone on a profile. The Customers index is not a spreadsheet. Native CSV overwrite is blunt; an empty cell in that file can wipe a real first name. This app: empty CSV cells do not clear values on updates. Different contract. Do not claim native Shopify CSV does the same.

Search in the editor asks Shopify for name, email, phone, tags. That is how you *find* the ninety show accounts on the show domain. Then filter. Columns, filters, and sorting: filters run across the whole list, not the current page. Turn first name / last name / email / phone on if the picker hid them.

Read-only stays what Shopify will not write: total spent, order count, created date. Those columns are for looking, not for “fixing revenue”.

Listing: Free, 0 reviews, launched 15 September 2026. Do not invent stars. Works with Excel and Google Sheets via CSV. Fields the standard editor makes painful in bulk: Customer Locale and tax-exemption. Name/email/phone are “normal” fields — and still the ones shops edit one profile at a time.

Workarounds until info@ is the first name

Copy out of the note, ninety times. Note says “Lisa, 06-…”. You paste into First name and Phone. A dozen rows slip. The note stays, so nobody knows which field is source.

Native export, spreadsheet, overwrite back. One shifted column and last names land in email. Or a blank First name cell wipes a real name. Here: cell by cell, or bulk apply, preview, Save. Empty import cells leave existing values.

Tags as fake names (`first_lisa`). Tags are filters. Names are names. Later you cannot filter “everyone with a blank first name” because the tag soup is full.

None of that is: four columns in view, search on the domain, do *not* blindly stamp one first name on ninety rows, *do* stamp a shared country prefix on phone where that is true, Save when the preview is honest.

Four fields, Shopify errors, one Save

Click a cell, type, keep going. Shopify save bar → Save. Discard drops every unsaved change. Docs: Save is permanent. Only changed fields go to Shopify. Edit phone only and locale stays.

Email and phone are unique enough for Shopify to fail a row: duplicate email, invalid number. The grid shows the Shopify error on that customer; the rest stay staged until you fix it or Discard. The whole job does not vanish.

Marketing consent (email, SMS, WhatsApp) is a different block. Docs: subscribed states need a valid opt-in level. A new mobile number is not “set SMS to yes”. Consent follows Shopify, not an Excel column of “yes”.

Apply a value to many customers:

  1. Tick rows, or Select all matching (search + segment + filters, up to 50,000).

  2. Field = first name / last name / email / phone, Value = the value.

  3. Apply to selected. The table shows staged edits.

  4. Save. Large job: keep the tab open, batches, progress.

Bulk apply is for one shared value (a country prefix, a shared last-name field for a buying desk — rare). Ninety unique first names: type in the cell, or a CSV where each row already has a real name. Do not claim a “parse note into first name” feature.

Default address has its own phone. That is the address phone, not the customer phone. Do not swap those columns.

Walkthrough: show import, ninety rows, three columns

“Cloth House”. Tag `show-oct`. Search: that tag. Filter: first name empty. Ninety rows. Email is the show address. Phone sits in note.

  1. Install OO - Bulk Customer Data Editor. Free.

  2. Customers → More actions → Edit in bulk, or the app dashboard.

  3. Columns: first name, last name, email, phone, note, locale, tax exempt. Note on, so you can read the card.

  4. Search/tag `show-oct`. Filter first name is empty.

  5. Unique names: type in the cell. A shared phone-prefix fix: selection → bulk apply on phone → review.

  6. Save. Tab open. Failed email: toast with the Shopify message, fix that row, do not rerun the rest.

Locale empty after the same import? Listing USP, other column, same Save. Finish this pass on contact fields; do not turn the blog into tax exempt. One Save may touch several columns. One article should not.

Staff without write_customers never reach the editor. That is a role, not a CSV workaround.

Get it live

  1. Open the listing. Free.

  2. Spreadsheet editing: first name, last name, email, phone.

  3. Turn columns on. Search name/email/phone/tags, then filters.

  4. Cell or bulk apply. Preview. Save. Keep the tab open on large sets.

  5. Do not “also” flip marketing consent without a Shopify opt-in.

Excel/Sheets: CSV in and out, same fields. Empty cells on update = unchanged.

Wrap-up

Shopify bulk edit customer name email phone is not a second customer app. It is four editable columns in the same spreadsheet as locale and tax exempt. Native Shopify does them per profile. Here: a grid, up to 50,000 matching, batches, Discard until you trust Save. Do not overwrite spend. Do not set consent to yes without opt-in.

Fix the names in OO - Bulk Customer Data Editor. The note can go empty after. The mobile number belongs in phone.
